Dr. Koschat was born in Carinthia and grew up in Klagenfurt. He received his PhD from the Department of Mathematics at the University of Vienna and subsequently from the Department of Statistics at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
Dr. Koschat's professional work is guided by the idea that essential questions of management can be answered through rigorous research and careful analysis. Conversely, practical problems of management provide important research stimuli. Dr. Koschat therefore repeatedly engaged himself as an academic, business consultant and manager.
Dr. Koschat's professional positions in the business area were Bell Telephone Laboratories, where he served as a consultant to regional U.S. telecommunications companies, and Time Warner Retail Sales and Marketing, where he was most recently "Executive Vice President" in charge of information management. As an academic, he has served as Assistant Professor at the Yale School of Management, Associate Professor at New York University Stern School of Business, and most recently as Professor at IMD in Lausanne.
Dr. Koschat's research has two main areas of focus - information management in support of marketing and the effective use of distribution channels as a component of a successful marketing strategy. His research has appeared in leading academic journals such as Journal of Marketing Research, Marketing Science, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, Psychometrika and Annals of Statistics. He also publishes articles in journals aimed at a broader audience - such as Interfaces and The American Statistician - and several case studies.
Dr. Koschat lives in Vienna with his wife, Anita Hussey-Koschat, and works as a business educator and business consultant. He teaches as a visiting professor at the University of Vienna and at ESCP in Paris.
