Studies, graduation and doctorate at the Vienna University of Technology. Habilitation at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. Employed by Combustion Engineering and IBM, among others, active as a management consultant and as a lecturer at continuing education seminars for practitioners, visiting professor at the Universities of Karlsruhe, Paris (ESSEC) and Aix-en-Provence. Professor at Purdue University (USA). A. o. Univ.-Prof. at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, full professor at the University of Vienna since 1.10.1991, 1.10.1992 - 31.12.2004 director of the Institute of Business Administration and from May 2004 - September 2006 dean of the Faculty of Economics, March 2012 - September 2016 study program director for the doctoral program at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Vienna, since October 2018 director of the Institute of Business Administration at the University of Vienna. Honorary doctorate from the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany, Best Paper Award from the Association of University Teachers of Business Administration (2009). Visiting professorships at Université Paris Dauphine, France; Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, Germany; National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan; "Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University," Kaliningrad, Russia; and Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Author of over 250 publications.
